The WA Reds invested heavily in local talent for the 2012 season, with 20 of our 25 man squad being local players. Our goal is for this to continue in the 2013 season, however it is vital that for this to happen local players need to ensure they are physically ready to compete at SG Ball level.

A minimum physical requirement will be introduced this coming season to ensure local players are physically ready to be a part of the WA Reds training squad. These physical requirements will include body weight, body fat percentage, fitness and strength. Players who do not meet minimum requirements in these fields will not be selected in the 2013 WA Reds training squad.

If there are not 20 local players that have the desired talent and meet these minimum requirements, the level of imported players will be increased to fill these empty positions.

Coaching staff from the WA Reds will be holding testing sessions commencing this coming Wednesday and then every three weeks leading up to the start of the preseason in October. These testing sessions are open to any interested player born in 1995, 1996 or 1997, and will enable players to track were they are at against these requirements along with receiving information and advice on diet plans, strength and conditioning programs and lifting technique.

These sessions will also be a strong indicator to the coaching staff on which players have the desired levels of dedication and commitment needed to represent the WA Reds in 2013.
